crimson's 'timelight' EP is the result of combing through a back catalogue dating back to 2012, and selecting a cohesive stand-out collection of emotionally-driven downtempo tracks. while the work is understated and possibly appearing simple at first, strong emotional undercurrents and subtle craft reveal complexities that stand the test of time. these tracks could easily function in the foreground on a chilled out dancefloor or play a more obvious background or life soundtrack scenario as well.
all tracks all were created in the late night hours past 3am "when most people are sleeping and you can journey a little deeper" quotes crimson. 'aaliyah 2012' and 'don’t know' are earlier works from 2012, while 'timelight' and 'faith 99' come from the later months of 2014. soft ethereal pads compliment darker off-axis vocal work over the shuffly halftime beats of 'don't know'. the heart-felt 'aaliyah 2012' is a tribute of sorts, made on the anniversary of her passing, though interestingly not sampling from her voice. crimson enjoys noting that the bulk of the track came out of a one night session he snuck in at the studio of sergio levels, fellow modern math and rinseout co-hort, while sergio was off on a cruise somewhere. 'timelight' and 'faith 99' were made in a tiny high-story studio apartment during a cold 2 weeks of icey calgary winter. "..i remember the windows being frozen shut. ..creating some warmth in the winter months is key, and i feel these tracks reflect the battle we face with the cold / dark forces."
crimson is based in calgary, a member of 'modern math' and 'the rinse out' family, and a frequent dj at the beloved 'hifi' club amongst other hot spots and festivals.
